IN SHELTER

Looking for a dog with simple ingredients? We’d like to recommend our house specialty: The Denver.

This handsome shepherd mix starts with a sturdy foundation, layers on a generous helping of loyalty, adds a dash of independence, and is finished off with a tennis-ball garnish.

Denver takes a little time to warm up to new people. Think of him as the sandwich that’s still toasting on the griddle. You might catch a few cautious glances at first, but once he’s finished cooking and starts feeling comfortable, you’ll discover a genuinely sweet dog who’s worth every minute of the wait. He seems especially fond of men, though he’s happy to add new people to his recipe book when introductions are served with patience.

For his daily specials, Denver enjoys long walks with a side of good manners. He doesn’t react to passing vehicles, doesn’t make a fuss over other dogs, and generally keeps himself nicely contained. Birds, however? Let’s just say they tend to look like premium toppings, and Denver occasionally finds himself wondering if they belong on the menu.

When it’s playtime, Denver’s order is simple: one tennis ball, one soccer ball, and unlimited kiddie pool refills. He’s currently participating in a chef-approved wellness program to trim off a few extra layers and get back to his ideal serving size.

Now, every great sandwich has a few special instructions. Denver is not a fan of veterinary appointments, and needles are firmly listed under “ingredients to avoid.” He wears a comfort muzzle during vet visits to help everyone have the safest, least stressful experience possible. We don’t blame him, some menu items are better left off the buffet.

While we’re still discovering all the ingredients that make Denver unique, we can already picture his perfect home. A farm, acreage, or rural property would suit him beautifully. Somewhere with room to roam, chores to supervise, critters to keep an eye on, and plenty of opportunities to feel like an important member of the kitchen staff.

So if you’re searching for a companion who’s hearty, wholesome, and packed with potential, skip the drive-thru and order Denver instead.

Note, the adoption fee for a pet adoption from the Pembina Valley Humane Society includes their spay/neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccines and boosters, and a post-adoption exam at a local clinic.
