How to Help
Ways You Can Help
It takes a village.
Helping abandoned and unwanted animals is as rewarding for you as it is for them. For every walk, you get joyful tail wags. For every clean bed, eyes filled with gratitude. For every financial donation, a healed animal.
Help us continue to save lives and expand programs and services in the community. It takes a village to fulfill the mission of the Pembina Valley Humane Society. We couldn’t do it without you.

Why do I Volunteer?
I volunteer at the shelter because I love cats and volunteering. I am able to help cats that are waiting for their new homes. By volunteering, I was exposed to cats with different needs. I love spending time with them after I finish my tasks and I have seen how some of the cats have been able to come out of their shyness or learn to trust again. This is what matters the most, making an environment where cats can learn to love and be loved so they can find a new home much easier and live their best lives!
I really enjoy getting to know the dogs and seeing them come out of their shells ad gain confidence. They joy on display when they get to go out and be FREE is a joy for me and the dogs. I LOVE the sound of silence when the lights go out and the dogs are calm and content. Lastly and selfishly, it has helped me practice patience and gives me peace of mind knowing that the animals are safe and comfortable inside.
Both myself and my son volunteer at the shelter because we both have a passion for animals. Big or small, cuddly or not, we are passionate that all animals should be treated with the love that most of the time they crave. The best thing about doing chores is seeing their reaction when we come to the door, from climbing up onto your shoulders for a cuddle to playing with the brush when trying to sweep the floor. It's this that keeps us coming back week after week and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is able to help out.
Volunteering at the animal shelter brings me immense joy and purpose. It's a privilege to provide love, care, and a second chance to animals in need. Witnessing their transformations and the happiness they bring to their new families is incredibly rewarding. Every day at the shelter reaffirms my belief in compassion and the power of giving. It's not just about the animals; it's about fostering a sense of community and making a meaningful impact. Volunteering here has enriched my life in ways I couldn't have imagined, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these wonderful creatures.
