We’ve got a fresh new item on the shelter menu board, and trust us, this one is worth coming back for! Introducing JC (Junior Chicken) a 4 year old, approximately 48 lb mixed-breed gentleman who looks like a miniature Rottweiler and comes with an extra side of sweetness! No drive-thru required, just bring your appetite for cuddles, patience, and a whole lot of love!

Now JC might have that “tough guy” looking exterior, but really he’s a soft serve with paws. This sweet boy is still learning that the world isn’t as scary of a place as he thinks. Loud noises can make him nervous, and his leash is definitely NOT his favourite item just yet. He’s still figuring out how to navigate the big world, but we see his curiosity peeking through, and there’s so much potential simmering beneath that shy exterior!

JC’s ideal happy meal home? A cozy couch, a loving human or two, a quiet home, and unlimited opportunities for snuggles. This boy has all the ingredients to become an absolutely fantastic companion! He’s incredibly cuddly, curious about the world around him, and just waiting for someone to help him build a little confidence. Toys haven’t quite made it onto his list of favourite things yet (we’re still searching for his signature side dish!), but honestly, who needs a squeaky toy when you could be curled up beside your favourite person?

When it comes to canine company, JC seems to do pretty well around other dogs, but he’s had some less than five-star dining experiences with a previous housemate who bullied him. Because of that, we’re looking for a family who understands that good friendships take time. Slow introductions, respectful canine companions, and plenty of room to settle in will help JC feel comfortable. He’s had enough of being pushed around, and now it’s HIS turn to be treated like the special of the day!

JC isn’t looking for a fast-food kind of love. He’s looking for the slow-cooked, extra-cheese, made-with-love, forever-and-ever kind! He needs a family willing to let him set the pace, celebrate the little victories, and help him discover that life can be pretty wonderful when you’ve got people who make you feel safe.

And the best part? You don’t need to teach him to be perfect. You just need to show him that he doesn’t have to be brave every second of every day. With patience, kindness, and a little confidence, building sprinkled on top, we think this boy could blossom into something truly special.

So, who’s ready to supersize the love in their life? JC is waiting for his forever family, and we have a feeling he’s going to be someone’s all-time favourite order.

Note, the adoption fee for a pet adoption from the Pembina Valley Humane Society includes their spay/neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccines and boosters, and a post-adoption exam at a local clinic.
