IN SHELTER

Diggie is proof that while his name says Smalls, absolutely everything else about him says larger than life.

Built like an American Akita and rocking enough presence to stop traffic, Diggie has mastered something many dogs never do: communication. This guy doesn’t believe in mixed signals. He’ll happily tell you when he’s excited, when he needs a break, when he’s ready to learn, and (most importantly) when it’s time to collect his paycheck in treats. He’s an open book with four paws.

Like any true superstar, Diggie thrives with an audience. He absolutely adores people and wants to be part of whatever you’ve got going on. Count him in for training, enrichment games, and long exercise sessions! As long as you keep it quick, fun, and rewarding, Diggie is ready to drop his next hit. Think of him less as a feature-length documentary and more as a collection of chart-topping singles, short sessions keep his attention, his confidence high, and his tail wagging.

When it comes to other dogs, Diggie’s motto is, “I got friends.” He enjoys brief, respectful social interactions and is happy to say hello before getting back to his own business. As for cats? That’s one collaboration that hasn’t made the album yet.

Now, every celebrity has some form of kryptonite, and Diggie’s is pretty simple. Veterinary visits can make him a little nervous, so he appreciates a team that understands dogs like him and is willing to take things at his pace. The good news? Many veterinary professionals are experienced with handling large, independent breeds, and with a little patience and thoughtful care, Diggie can be set up for success.

If your idea of the perfect companion is a dog who’s equal parts brains, bounce, personality, and heart, then Diggie might just be your next platinum record. He’s energetic enough to keep up with your adventures, clever enough to make every day interesting, and affectionate enough to remind you why dogs really are the GOATs.

Note, the adoption fee for a pet adoption from the Pembina Valley Humane Society includes their spay/neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccines and boosters, and a post-adoption exam at a local clinic.
