IN SHELTER

Odin hasn’t had the easiest journey, but oh boy, has he risen above it. What once was fear has become courage. What was once a shut-down dog has become a wiggly, playful, joyful silly boy. Odin is living proof that with patience, kindness, and respect, even the most guarded hearts can bloom.

Odin is ready for a home — the right home.

He’s not looking for just anyone; he’s looking for his person, his partner, his safe place. Someone who understands that trust isn’t owed, it’s earned. Someone who knows that progress doesn’t need to be linear or rushed, and that the quiet moments of growth are victories worth celebrating.

Once Odin loves you, it’s all in. He’ll lean into you, look to you for reassurance, and choose to trust — even when it’s hard. And the gift of that trust is something you will feel forever.

Odin has done really well with dog friends, and enjoys his paired play dates where he and a fellow shelter resident dog can play, wrestle, explore and sniff together. He seems like he would also do well with cats, the only problem we see is that he doesn’t understand they don’t want to play like dogs. So a cat would need to be very play savvy, and be agile enough to keep up with him!

Odin has become the resident stuffed animal inspector. When he adds to his stash in his kennel, he takes very good care of them, and keeps them clean and proper on his bed. But, once they go outside, all bets are off. It’s shredding time! His favorite thing to do is parade around his massacre! He also loves treat puzzles, towel treat knots, and Kongs!

This big baby boy wants to be involved in whatever you’re doing — he wants to be your partner in all things. He’s curious, he watches all your movements, and finds simple background noises like keyboards, music, baking, or TV incredibly soothing and makes himself comfy while being around his people.

On the flip-side, he loves a good outdoor adventure where he can sniff, explore, and be a nature boy. His nose guides him, but he’s very attentive and likes checking in with his walking handler often. He has some walking reactivity, but he’s eager to make progress on this and eager to please. He listens well, he just needs some guidance. An experienced handler would do well with him, and give him the confidence he needs to continue to grow in his ability to overcome.

Odin has some handling sensitivities — especially around his legs and feet — and it’s important that his person respects that. He needs someone who understands body language, consent-based handling, and the value of moving at his pace. He’s made huge strides, even learning to file his nails himself with scratch pads because nail clippers are a firm “no thank you.” Vet visits are a work in progress, and he needs an advocate who won’t rush him.

Toys, chase, tug — if it’s fun, he’s in. He’s not suited to a home with children, simply because his comfort, boundaries, and progress need to stay protected. Odin isn’t asking for perfect home, he’s just looking for someone who can give him patience, stability, respect and someone who celebrates who he is rather than who he “should” be.

In return, you’ll get a dog who will make you laugh every single day. A dog who will be silly, bouncy, affectionate, and deeply bonded to you. A dog who will try his hardest for you, because you earned his heart.

If you believe that trust is something you build, not expect…
If you value progress over perfection…
If you’re ready for a once-in-a-lifetime bond…

Odin might be that dog.
