Tales of Tribute

Welcome to our Tribute Wall, a place of heartfelt recognition and remembrance. Each name here honours someone cherished by our supporters — a friend, family member or beloved pet — who inspires and dedicates themselves to animal rescue and rehab. These tributes reflect the kindness and love shared within the Pembina Valley communities, helping us save lives and provide safe, loving homes and health for animals in need. Thank you for celebrating these special individuals with us and for helping us make a difference in their honour. You can submit your tributes on the form below.

Huntress, Matriarch, Best Friend

Minerva

October 2019-September 2025

“Minerva enjoyed but never entirely acclimated to life as an indoor cat. She came into our lives as a very spicy and feral kitten. We had her vetted and worked tirelessly with her to help her become comfortable with people and in our home. She took her time (as Tortie’s do) managed to break multiple flat screen TV’s as she learned what life indoors was like, but she eventually made our family her home. She still hunted and provided for her humans and fur siblings almost every day. She kept our gardens protected from critters, and kept the perimeter of our home safe from four-legged wanderers. She claimed our daughters room as her own, and loved stealing warm seats right from under you. Some of her favorite snacks were rawhide, beef jerky and dried sardines. She was quirky, and weird, and a little bit wild, but she was our Nerv Nerv, and she is so deeply missed.”

Marvin Elias

“Today I laid to rest the most amazing little ball of fluff I could have ever wished for. He brought me years of companionship and a friendship that will go unmatched. From the day that I brought him home thinking that he was a girl kitten, I named him Marge, only to wake up one morning to ‘him’ and instantly naming him Marvin aka ‘Marv’. He went to hell and back with me and never faltered, from us freezing in my camper together when the heat went out in the middle of winter curled up under a blanket keeping him warm to him being the first one to know when something wasn’t right with me and refusing to leave my side. He was full of fun and love. I remember the day he met one of my good friendsand took it upon himself to spend the entire evening picking on him like a good little boy should. Everyone that knew him would walk into my house and instantly greet him with an enthusiastic, “MARV!!!!!!” He loved nothing more than to knock my chocolate milks off the table and try to steal my cereal when I wasn’t paying attention. Pick a box any box, he didn’t discriminate because he loved them all. He was the fearless guardian of the water faucet in the bathroom, personal space was a mere suggestion to him with his head bops to my nose. Rest easy Marv. Keep that big water faucet in the sky safe ok buddy? I love you so much.”

Veronica Frost

October 19, 1954 – August 30, 2023

“Veronica’s first involvement with the PVHS was in 2008 when she and daughter Michelle Frost started the Coin Can Fundraiser. Veronica was one of the lead creators of the PVHS’s annual fundraising events “Steps for Pets” walk-a-thon and “Raise the Woof” comedy show, as well as the 2009-2010 “Paws for a New Shelter” and new building construction capital campaign. Through 2009-2014, Veronica sat on the Board in the role as book-keeper for the PVHS. Her love for animals and dedication as a volunteer contributed significantly to the creation of the shelter as we know it today! Now Veronica is dancing with the angels, gone from our sights, but always in our hearts.”
