IN FOSTER

Some dogs arrive at shelters with stories no one could ever imagine. Barnaby is one of them. but if you met him today, you’d never guess how much he’s already overcome in his short life by how wonderful he is. This big, beautiful pup came into care with serious injuries to his neck, likely caused by a collar or rope embedded deep into his skin. It was painful, it was traumatic, and it never should have happened. But Barnaby decided that his past would not define him.

With the help of veterinary care and the comfort of a loving medical foster home, Barnaby has been healing, on the outside and inside. His wounds are improving better than anyone could have hoped, and while he may have some lasting scar tissue as he grows, his resilience and spirit are shining brighter every day. To him, life is good now… and he’s embracing every moment.

Despite everything he’s been through, Barnaby is a remarkably sweet, sensitive soul. He looks at people and gives over all of his trust right away. He melts into cuddles, leans into affection, and believes wholeheartedly that he and his humans belong together. Don’t let his already big floofy body confuse you…he is absolutely a lap dog.

Barnaby is thriving in medical foster care. He currently lives with a cat and has done well with dogs he met in the shelter, showing that his heart is just as gentle as his spirit. He’s learning the basics of training quickly — eager to please and grateful for structure and kindness. And when he’s not curled up beside his foster family, he loves spending time outdoors, taking in the world with curiosity and joy, like he’s experiencing life the way it was always meant to be.

Barnaby isn’t quite ready for adoption just yet — he needs just a bit more time to finish healing and soak up all the love his medical foster home has to offer. But soon, he will be ready to meet the family that will give him the safety, patience, and devotion he has always deserved.

When that time comes, he will give you everything in return: loyalty, gentleness, laughter, couch-cuddles, big-dog snuggles, and a bond built on gratitude and love.

Barnaby’s story began with hardship — but it will end in happiness.

Note, the adoption fee for a pet adoption from the Pembina Valley Humane Society includes their spay/neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccines and boosters, and a post-adoption exam at a local clinic.
