Spray & Neuter Program

Spay and Neuter

The Pembina Valley Humane Society strongly believes that all companion animals (dogs and cats) should be spayed or neutered. All animals that come into our care are sterilized, and to date, since 2002, we are proud to report we have completed over 700 spay or neuter surgeries.

Currently, we partner with the Morden/Winkler veterinary clinics to help us. When you adopt a pet from the PVHS, the fee you pay ensures that it will already be spayed or neutered or, if it is too young, you will be required to return the animal to PVHS upon request to have the sterilization surgery completed.

Dogs and Cats on Farms

Every year, hundreds of unwanted animals are born on farms in our rural areas because owners do not want to incur the costs of sterilization surgeries. Owners of mulitple pets may feel it’s too expensive to do one, let alone two or more animals. Sadly, our shelter is often at capacity and we are unable to take in these unwanted litters. As a result, many animals are “disposed of” in inhumane ways. If you have multiple pets that need sterilization, you may qualify for the Winnipeg Humane Society’s assistance program.
